"Finding Work" Workshop for Non-Fiction Writers

You've got your business card and your resume in hand. You've got what you feel to be the right combination of training and experience. You're ready to take on the world as a technical writer, a corporate communicator, or a public relations specialist. You know your skills are needed, but you are not sure how to market them or yourself.

Having the writing skills without the self-marketing ability is a bit like blinking in the dark. You know what you can do, but no one else will.

"Finding Work" is an all day workshop that will show you how to shine a light on your capabilities: by helping you develop a blueprint for that final step onto the freelance stage. Among the topics to be covered:

• And what is it that you do anyway? Your clients need to know!
• How To Establish A Network From Scratch - or how to learn to love making cold calls.
• Fostering Strategic Alliances.
• Gaining Leverage
• How much money can I make, really.
• Leverage: How to get it and when to use it.

I taught Professional Readiness Courses at Douglas College in New Westminster, B. C. for a decade and teach Finding Work and Career Options seminars at the downtown campus of Simon Fraser University, in Vancouver, B.C.
